Tasks and Missions
I was hoping you could take care of some things for me. I mean, you have nothing better to do, right? Compared to someone like me. I'll even pay a tithe to your temple in exchange. Maybe put in a good word for you, if you do a good job - and promptly too, of course.' Direct Links Tasks | Missions | Character Slots | Monthly Points Information Overview | Tasks | Missions | Custom | Rewards & Requirements | FAQ Descriptions Task and Missions Overview Tasks and Missions can increase a character's reputation with Takamagahara and sometimes they are requested by an NPC from The Far Shore directly. Where a prayer is a direct request for something specific to happen, a task or mission is an indirect request that could take some extra effort in order to accomplish. Tasks do not have a specific triggering event that the mods provide to the player; they are player-initiated. For example, one such mission is for a shinki to train a fellow shinki on advance spellwork. No NPC approaches either character to ask them to do this, and no NPC tells them they gained the rewards when the task is completed, but they gain the rewards all the same. They tend to not include metaplot elements, or if they do they are very lowkey in nature, hinting at broader Setting aspects of Noragami canon more than The Far Shore game. Missions can be initiated in a variety of ways, depending on the nature of the mission. It could be a letter from an NPC giving out the task, it could be a face-to-face request from an NPC, or it could be a Shinki/God character choosing to investigate something metaplot related and a mod is simply giving hints along the way. Characters on these missions can reasonably expect to interact with NPCs more - if only handwaved in some cases - and get more direct answers to metaplot questions. While this may require more discussion with the mods to accomplish a player's goals, we understand and encourage this discussion to take place. We have provided multiple avenues via the Mod Contact and Static OOC NPC Contact Post. Regardless of being a Task or Mission, they are more strict in their requirements. Descriptions and Requirements also tend to be more intricate. Tasks run on a slot system different from Prayers, but players can start the thread as soon as they wish, provided that any pre-requisites have been met. We DO require that players comment to this page; this is because players are restricted to 3 Tasks or Missions at any given time. You will get a comment from a list mod acknowledging the task being started. Then, just like prayers, we need a reply later on with a link to the finished task thread/log in order for the list mods to distribute the task rewards. Pre-requisites don't have to be fulfilled by all characters answering the task, just like prayers; each pre-requisite only needs to be fulfilled by one character. Missions need more input from the mods and are our dynamic way of allowing those players who want to engage with metaplot elements to do so inbetween mod-run events that deal heavily with metaplot, since those could be 2-3 months apart. As a result, how Missions get initiated vary wildly from mission to mission, especially if they're the open-ended follow-up variety. There may be a handful of OOC comments that go back and forth to solidify a player's goals before we flesh out a customized plot follow-up mission. Players are thus encouraged to provide any additional details they can in advance, to guide the plot mods in thinking about how we could address a player's interests. In the Additional Details section - which the plot mods will read - be sure to include things like:
and wait for a mod response before starting your mission. Once the Mission is acknowledged, you will receive a comment from either the list mods or a plot mod. Follow any specific directions in that mod comment, and then be sure to reply later with your completed mission link when you're finished. What is a custom mission?
Since Missions are usually more rigid in design and requirements, we understand that players may want to uniquely follow up on certain aspects of the game. That's what custom missions are for! They can also give players a special sort of experience in the game outside of events, catered specifically to their goals for their character. Players are welcome to write custom chained missions as well! Submit all of them at once for approval and we'll review them all in advance if you'd like, or you can submit them one at a time. Custom Mission Description: This should be from the perspective of a Near Shore character in need of something accomplished, or a focus on an event topic to be continued, or phrased as a question about an existing game element, or explaining why a chain is continuing. and wait for a mod response before starting your mission. If the Custom Mission is approved, you will receive a comment from the list mods or main mods. Reply to that mod comment with your completed mission link when you're finished. Before replying to a comment with the finished mission link, a list mod will review the thread to make sure it meets all of the mission's requirements, just like for Prayers. If it does, they will reply with a comment that details all of the rewards for the mission. Followers and experience updates are reflected on the Tag Counts around the same time as the list mod's reply. Just like prayers, the "requirements" for missions come in two varieties, IC and OOC, in order for the prayer to be considered answered. IC requirements are what writing elements need to be in the thread. OOC requirements are usually comment counts and refer to the length of the entire thread, not per character. OOC and IC requirements are both strictly enforced for Missions, because the rewards are higher. I can include references to the Monthly Announcement Prompts? Yes! We allude to Far Shore residents asking for help which could be solved via tasks or missions in our Monthly Announcements, under the "Happenings" category. If you solve these problems in the threads that you turn in to this page, then we will award you a 10% bonus. Don't worry if you don't get it finished in the same month - as long as it is started within the month holding the Announcement Happening referenced in your task or mission, you'll still get the bonus credit. All of the same guidelines from the Prayers FAQ apply to Missions as well. In addition:
A maximum of FIVE played characters (so not including soulless shinki) can claim any given mission. In order to get credit for any mission they participate in, any one character must have made at least 3 comments to the thread regardless of comment requirements. For example, 5 characters request a prayer only requiring 10 comments. If they turn the prayer in at 10 comments, only some of the characters - the ones that made 3 comments - will get credit for the prayer, so it'd be better to wait until at least 15 comments, or 3 comments per 5 characters.
